Library Expands Services with Kids eReading Room

Post Date:03/31/2014 2:18 PM

Press Release

(Woodland, CA) – The Yolo County Library has expanded its services with a new digital collection website experience just for kids. The main digital collection, http://yolocounty.lib.overdrive.com, now has a separate site to provide a safe and easy browsing experience for children. The new Kids eReading Room is available at http://yolocounty.lib.overdrive.com/kids.

This appealing and user-friendly site contains a variety of age-appropriate materials for children ages 0-12, including digital picture books, early readers, chapter books, eAudiobooks, music and video. Children can search for titles by their favorite authors or browse by subject, interest level or reading level, including Lexile or ATOS (Accelerated Reader) measures.

“Through reading, children build vocabulary, memory and language, and other essential skills. They are introduced to new concepts, learn about the world around them and develop imagination and creativity,” said Yolo County Librarian Patty Wong. “I am delighted that, with the addition of the Kids eReading Room, the library will be able to provide children with even greater access to materials to expand their knowledge and skills.”

The Kids eReading Room selects only children’s content from the overall digital collection, which gets kids to the titles they want faster. This new service is free for users with a Yolo County Library card. Children of all ages can get a free library card at their local branch library. Digital titles can be used on personal computers and a variety of mobile devices, are available anytime and anywhere, and expire automatically so no need to worry about late fees.
