Update on June Gardening Classes for Children at Community Garden
(Woodland, CA) – Two free gardening classes for children will be held in June at the Hannah and Herbert Bauer Memorial Community Garden, sponsored by the Yolo County Health Department and located adjacent to the Bauer Building at 137 N. Cottonwood Street in Woodland. Tuleyome Home Place Adventures will be leading the activities for each class.
This Thursday, June 5, 6:30-8:00 p.m. (note: new time), the “Tommy the Tomato” class will teach kids how to make tomato cages for their home garden and includes an art contest. Art supplies will be provided or young artists can bring their finished artwork or poem to the garden. Entries must include at least one “tomato-like” element with the rest up to the imagination. Winners in five age group categories (starting at 3 years and under, and up to 18 years) will be featured at the Woodland Tomato Festival in August.
On Saturday, June 21, 9:30-11:00 a.m., (note: new date and time) will feature various garden art activities, including making “plant pals” to take home (similar to Chia Pets).
“These free classes are a great way to inspire your kids to enjoy the outdoors, have fun with gardening, and to allow their creative juices to flow,” said Yolo County Director of Health Services Jill Cook.
Please bring water and wear clothes/shoes that are garden friendly. These classes are part of the Health Department’s commitment to providing garden-based education opportunities to Yolo County residents. Pre-registration for all classes is optional, but strongly encouraged. Contact Robin Rocksvold at the Yolo County Health Department with questions, or to register for any of the classes: (530) 666-8528 or email@example.com.
