Hands-on Kitchen Botany July 16
(Woodland, CA) – The Mary L Stephens Davis Branch Library, located at 315 East 14th Street in Davis, continues to offer exciting summer programing for adults. On Wednesday, July 16, 7:00 to 8:00 p.m., Ellen Dean, Curator of the UC Davis Center for Plant Diversity, will give a "hands-on" presentation on Kitchen Botany.
Are tomatoes a fruit, vegetable, botanical berry or a culinary vegetable? Are avocados, bell peppers, eggplants, squash, sweet peppers, tomatillos, vanilla and zucchini fruits or vegetables? Find out the answers to these questions while learning to identity the structure and classification of common supermarket fruits and vegetables.
“There’s a botanical world waiting to be explored,” said Yolo County Librarian Patty Wong. “Come to the Davis Branch Library and learn the difference between tubers, legumes, roots, grains, nuts, bulbs, stems and leafy vegetables.”
No reservations are required. The Blanchard Room of the Mary L. Stephens Davis Branch Library is accessible for persons with disabilities. Sponsored by the Friends of the Davis Public library and presented by the Yolo County Library, all programs are free.
