Under California state law certain materials, known as household
hazardous waste (HHW) are prohibited from disposal in everyday
garbage.  Types of HHW include:  electronic devices with a circuit
board (VCRs, cell phones, microwaves, telephones, printers, radios,
computers, monitors, TVs), batteries, motor oil, latex or oil based paints,
solvents, household cleaners, pesticides, herbicides, poisons,
fluorescent bulbs or tubes, electrical switches/relays, pilot light sensors,
mercury thermostats, and home generated medical waste.

                               Household Hazardous Waste Events

Yolo County provides free HHW disposal to Yolo County residents through a weekly
HHW Collection Program (PDF).  Specific types of waste are explained in the printable
brochures, Yolo County Universal Waste (PDF) and Home Generated Medical Waste (PDF).

 NOTICE:  The University of California Davis separately funds their own HHW collection program.   As such,
residents of the University are not eligible to bring HHW materials to the county HHW facility.  For information
about proper on-campus disposal,
please call (530) 752-7456 or send email to recycling@ucdavis.edu

Motor oil, batteries, electronics and cell phones, are accepted, in designated containers, daily at the landfill free of cost. Go to our Recycling Information page for more details.

Business hazardous waste from small quantity generators is accepted for a fee by appointment only. Call (800) 207-8222 to schedule a business drop-off date.
