Sisters in Crime love the Yolo County Library!
(Woodland, CA) – The Mary L. Stephens Davis Branch of the Yolo County Library was selected as the April 2014 winner of the “We Love Libraries” grant, sponsored by the Sisters in Crime membership organization, which is dedicated to promoting the ongoing advancement, recognition and professional development of women crime writers. Libraries within the U.S. can enter a monthly drawing for the grant by submitting an entry form and a photo of one or more staff members with three books by Sisters in Crime members in their collection.
“We are thrilled to be the recipient of this generous gift,” said Yolo County Librarian Patty Wong. “Libraries provide direct support to authors by circulating their books, introducing readers to their works, and encouraging love of the written word. It’s an honor that the Sisters in Crime organization recognizes these efforts and reciprocates that support.”
On Thursday, May 29 at 7:00 p.m., members of the Sisters in Crime organization will gather in the Reading Garden at the Mary L. Stephens Davis Branch Library, located at 315 E. 14th Street, to present the library with a check for $1,000 to purchase books for the collection. Following the presentation, local writer, Catriona McPherson, multi-award-winning author of the Dandy Gilver detective series, Sisters in Crime member, and former library worker, will read from her new stand-alone mystery book, The Day She Died, and will also be available to answer questions.
“Whoever said writing was a lonely pursuit probably didn't write in the heavenly, quiet study room of the Mary L Stephens Library, and probably wasn't one of the 3,000 members of Sisters in Crime,” said Catriona McPherson, Sisters in Crime author. “I count myself as one of the least lonely writers ever. It's a thrill and an honor to present the Davis Branch Library with a book-buying award on behalf of all the Sisters (and misters). Yolo County libraries have been a great support to me, as well as a wonderful resource, and it's lovely to be part of saying thank you.”
No reservations for this event are required. Presented by the Yolo County Library, all programs free. For more information about the Yolo County Library, visit: www.yolocountylibrary.org, or connect with the Yolo County Library on Facebook at www.facebook.com/yolocountylibrary.org.
