Process Servers: How To Register And Fees

The registration for process server must be filed with the County Clerk of the county in which he or she resides or where the principal place of business is located if that person makes more than 10 services of process within this state during one (1) calendar year for specific or in expectation of specific compensation which is directly attributable to the service of process.

A corporation or partnership must register as a process server with the county clerk of the county where its principal place of business is located if they derive or expects to derive compensation from service of process within this state.

Exempt from filing are the sheriffs, marshal or government employee acting in the scope of his or her employment, an attorney, court appointee, or licensed private investigator or their employees.

A certificate of registration is effective for two years. Thereafter, a registrant shall file a new certificate of registration and pay the fee required. 

  1. Complete either the Individual Process Server Registration OR the Corporation/Partnership Process Server Registration.
  2. Obtain a $2,000 Bond for Registration from a bonding company. The bond should commence the day you file the Certificate with the County Clerk. Sign the bond when you receive it from the bonding company.
  3. Obtain "Request for Live Scan Services" form from our office for submitting fingerprints. For more information regarding Live Scan fingerprinting visit the Attorney General's website.
  4. Obtain a photo, preferably a passport photo, for your identification card.

File with the County Clerk:

    • Certificate of Registration (and copies to conform)
    • $2000 Bond
    • Carbon Copy of the submitted request for Live Scan Services form
    • Certification of Registration Fee
    • Recording Fee
    • Fee for Issuance of an Identification Card
