Effective July 1, 2012,
the Yolo County Public Health Laboratory services are provided by the
Napa-Solano-Yolo-Marin County Public Health Lab in Fairfield, CA.

To better serve your needs, there will be a daily courier service passing through the Yolo County Health Department every afternoon. Please continue to use the appropriate Yolo County Public Health requisitions, filling them out with complete information including collection time and date, test requested, and specimen background information.

NOTE: Certain types of specimens will continue to require Public Health Department approval before they can be submitted for testing at the Public Health Laboratory; if you have questions about testing for communicable diseases or outbreaks contact the Yolo County Health Department.

Lab Services

If you have any specimens for testing, please call the Napa-Solano-Yolo-Marin County Public Health Laboratory at (707) 784-4410 by 12:00 pm the same day to schedule a courier pick-up at your site.

Water Samples

Types of Water Samples

Water samples can be dropped off at the Yolo County Environmental Heatlh office
Monday through Friday
before 3:00pm at

137 N. Cottonwood Street
Suite 2400 Woodland, CA.

If you have any questions about water or nitrate testing, please call Environmental Health Services at (530) 666-8646.

These samples are picked up Monday-Friday at 3pm

  • Water - presence/absence total coliforms & E. coli
  • Water - 10 tube MPN
  • Water - Quantitray (15 tube MPN)
  • Water - plate count

Water - nitrate, nitrite, other outside testing are ONLY picked up on the 2nd and 4th Tuesday of every month

Services we offer via another laboratory

  • Nitrite/Nitrate testing in water (service is only available through our Environmental Health Division) - Monterey County Public Health Laboratory.
  • Virology (serology, microscopic, and isolation), special serology (malaria, cat scratch fever, etc.) – California Department of Public Health, Microbial Diseases Lab (MDL) and Viral-Rickettsial Disease Lab (VRDL).

These services are picked up on the 2nd and 4th Tuesday of every month
