Supervisor McGowan Elected CSAC 2nd Vice-President
(Woodland, CA) – This week, Yolo County Board of Supervisors Chair Mike McGowan was elected 2nd vice-president for the California State Association of Counties (CSAC) Board of Directors at the association’s 115th Annual Meeting, held in Monterey County. CSAC is the advocacy voice of California’s 58 counties at the state and federal level.
“During these unprecedented times, we need to continue our efforts in driving state governance and fiscal reform,” said Yolo County Board of Supervisors Chair Mike McGowan. “We need to have a seat at the table and have effective representation as we build relationships with the legislature and the Governor. It is my honor to serve CSAC and the residents of California to this end as CSAC’s 2nd vice-president.”
In November 2008, Supervisor McGowan was re-elected to his fifth term on the Yolo County Board of Supervisors and currently is serving his fourth cycle as chair. He also chairs the West Sacramento Port Commission and serves as a member, and past chair, of the Delta Protection Commission. Prior to his seat on the Yolo County Board of Supervisors, he was elected to the inaugural City Council for the newly incorporated city of West Sacramento and served as the city’s first mayor.
During his tenure as a county supervisor, Mike McGowan has played a leadership role in CSAC. He serves on the association’s Executive Committee and Board of Directors, and as chair of both the Housing, Land Use & Transportation Policy Committee and the Indian Gaming Working Group. McGowan also services as vice-chair of the Native American Affairs Subcommittee for the National Association of Counties.
Supervisor McGowan was elected to the 2nd vice-president position by county supervisors from throughout the state during a CSAC General Assembly on November 19. State Controller John Chiang swore in the officers during a ceremony later that night. CSAC’s constitution and bylaws mandate that each year the presidency rotate from a rural to urban, and then to a suburban county supervisor. Supervisor McGowan represents suburban counties.
